We surveyed 500 UK sole traders to understand their views on Making Tax Digital, how prepared they are for the changes, and what action they expect to take to become compliant with the rules.

The results revealed a huge opportunity for accountants and bookkeeping professionals:

• One in five sole traders have never heard of MTD, with 60% saying they are underprepared for the changes
• 40% of sole traders who have never used an accountant said they would be willing to pay for accountancy tax return services
• This creates a potential £360 million growth opportunity for the industry.
